How much does it cost to join the programme?
MyCorps is a fully sponsored programme by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), therefore there will be no fees charged. Registrants will have to undergo a selection process in order to qualify participation in the MyCorps programme.
Who can Join this Programme?
MYCorps is open to all Malaysian citizens within the age of 18-30 years old. There are however a few criteria you would need to meet to ensure you get the maximum experience. Two qualities that a potential MyCorps volunteer must possess are;
- You must be able to understand and converse in basic English.
- You must own a passport valid for more than 6 months and have a willingness to travel overseas.
What is the selection process to join MYCorps?
Based on your application form, personality test, English test and video submission, selected applicants will be shortlisted for a final screening round. Applicants will be notified via email whether or not you have qualified for an interview session. Successful candidates will be announced through MyCorps social media and notified through emails.
Do I need any specific skills to volunteer abroad?
We do welcome professional skilled volunteer in various field such as Health, Physiotherapy, Education, Social Entrepreneurship, Construction, Energy, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Media & Communications and many more depending on the country of mission. However, if you did not fit in any of these categories, we also have General Volunteers which is as important as the rest. We will equip you with the relevant skills you will need while on this Mission through our Service Training Programme. What’s more important to us is whether you are passionate about developing your leadership, communication and team abilities. Whether you have the desire to level up and become a contributor to this world in a positive way, and whether you are ready for an adventure. In addition, if you do have any other secret talent, we welcome it! Do share it with us and we’ll see how we can make good use of these unique talents in the programme.
Do I need a passport or visa to volunteer?
Yes, It is compulsory for candidates to have a passport that is valid for more than 6 months for international mission. If a visa is necessary, we will arrange all the visa process for all participants.
However, if the mission takes place in Malaysia, passport is not compulsory.
Do I need to speak another language to volunteer?
The ability to understand and converse in basic English is compulsory. While speaking the local language of the community where our projects are centered is not necessary. However, you will be trained with some basic communication skills before travelling to any of the designated countries.
Does the programme include health insurance while I’m abroad?
Yes, we will provide a comprehensive health coverage for all participants.
How fit would I have to be, in order to participate in this programme?
Anyone can join this programme, regardless of your experience and fitness level. The only requirement is that you need to be healthy and you may undergo a health screening prior to being confirmed. However, rest assured you will be fitter than what you are now, after the intensive training and programme.
Do I need any vaccinations before volunteering abroad?
All relevant vaccinations will be provided.
Will I be deployed by myself?
You will travel as a group with other MYCorps participants. After arriving in your mission country, you will work closely with selected local NGOs.
